Show notes - Episode 545: Pay Attention to the Screen

Morning, friends!

We got a little real at the beginning, but I am in a better headspace than I was a week ago. So let's go to work!

To download the episode, click here!

Pat plays new music from Hana Kahn (5:38), then rambles on doctor visits (12:52), baseball on Roku (22:28), and people being obtuse on Facebook (29:49).

Hana Kahn

Many thanks to our dear friend for the new tune! Find more from Hana here and get On Top of the World here! Tell her Pat sent you! (But maybe don't tell her about the mouth riff.)

Doctor visits

I was a bit more open than I thought I'd be, but sometimes you have to dig in and get a little real. It is so helpful to have someone who can help me actually want and try to do that. After some recent downs, it felt good to have an up for once.

Baseball on Roku

I need every network head at FOX and ESPN and Apple or wherever MLB games will be next season to take notes from Roku. This is exactly how national broadcasts should look and sound. Give us one person from each team on the call. Make the score bug big enough to read but not so intrusive. When you're interviewing a player (because those segments are not going away), make that a smaller part of the screen than the game. The focus should always be on the product. The Roku presentation is as close to that as I've seen on modern national games.

Facebook is a weird place

Thanks for writing in, and I'm sorry your friend got the runaround. I see stuff like this a lot and I do not know why people do it. If someone asks about a PS5, why are you suggesting another console or a PC? They already know what they want, they just need to narrow down specifics. You aren't going to magically convince them by just saying "you should get this" under their question. If you can't respond to what is actually being asked, just keep on scrolling.

And that, as we say, is that! Thank you for joining me today. Next week, I don't know what I'll be saying, so come on back and we'll learn together. Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Crap open a cold one!
