Oh hey!
I was typing this in my Discord server because I thought "I have no place else to put this" but then I remembered that I have a website. So here are some ramblings on rasslin - specifically, the WWE Royal Rumble and Cody's Rhodes.
I am not saying this will happen, or even that it should. But I thought about it five minutes ago and wanted to get it out of my brain before the idea vanished forever.
If they want to turn Cody heel (into a bad guy), here could be a way to do it. He is defending the World Title against Kevin Owens at the event. A big part of their feud has been Kevin Owens telling everyone how Cody isn't the golden boy people think he is. My idea plays into this.
👇
Kevin Owens defeats Cody Rhodes for the title (I'm assuming the Men's Rumble will be after that match, since my plan doesn't work otherwise). Sometime between his loss and the Rumble match, we see Cody Rhodes coming out of the General Manager's office. "Huh, why's he talking to them at this hour" the commentators wonder aloud.
The Rumble goes along and we're down to the final entrant: it is none other than Cody Rhodes. He shocks everyone and wins, which means he gets to pick his champion to face at WrestleMania. The next night on RAW (or maybe the Friday at Smackdown) he of course picks Kevin Owens.
During his subsequent matches, he starts to bend the rules a little: grabbing the ropes to get a pin, the ol thumb to the eye while the referee is distracted - nothing heinous yet, but obvious enough to the audience. Kevin Owens points these out, keeping with his theme of exposing Cody as a fraud. Onto WrestleMania we go!
Cody is using his heelish tricks to no avail. The crowd begins to turn on him. Kevin Owens retains the title despite Cody's best [cheap] efforts. The crowd erupts for his win, cementing their double turn. Kevin Owens finally gets his solo WrestleMania moment and Cody starts his full heel run the following week at TV.
🤼
Again, I am not saying this will or should happen. But if they wanted to pull a double turn, this is a way it could be done. Also I'm sure I'm missing some plot points here or "ruining" someone's potential WrestleMania plans, but I don't usually fantasy book like this.
So what say you? Is this plausible? Would this be fun to watch? Should I stick to talking about how much fun the rasslin action is? Let me know!
Crap open a cold one!
