Show notes - Episode 592: Thefting More Than Auto

Morning, friends!

I realize I am late on this news, but timing is rarely on my side these days. But today we talk about the direction of modern gaming after the long-awaited reveal of GTA VI. Let's go!

Pat rambles on GTA VI and what its release might mean for gaming as a whole going forward.

I love Grand Theft Auto games. I have played a bunch of them and I always find ways to have fun. Do I complete every mission in each one? Absolutely not. But the worlds are so expansive that I can have enough fun without finishing the story.

HAVING SAID THAT: This big of a franchise going the no-disc route is bad for gaming as a whole. PlayStation going digital-only days after this release news is also bad. Other studios will copy this model and it will be a mess for the consumer. I hate it, but it is unfortunately where we are headed. Corporations care about making money, and cutting costs is an easy way to do that.

I won't tell you to boycott the game, because that won't work as well as anyone hopes it will - too many people will buy it solely because it's GTA, everything else be damned. So we probably won't be able to stick it to the man in this case.

🎮

BUT! If you are excited to play this new game in November? I am so happy for you, and I want you to write or call in and tell me how much fun you're having when the time comes. I hope the game is as much fun as you've been hoping all these years.

One more thing before I go: buy physical media whenever you can. Put your shows and movies on hard drives and/or cloud storage. Back up everything in every way you can. Don't let corporate greed rob you of your comfort show or movie, especially after you've already paid for it. Get a win somewhere!

Yeah, there was no good transition there, but I had to add something else here for you today. Next week, we'll share skills we wish we had, so come on back for that. Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Crap open a cold one!
