Show notes - Episode 542: QU!ET Down and Hear About My Day

Morning, friends!

Well, I found out that my new work schedule will be four weeks in and four weeks out of the office, allegedly starting in September. So the show will go through some changes for sure. But for this week? New music from dear friends, my day at the library, and much more. Let's get to it!

Pat plays new music from QU!ET (5:59), rambles on a disappointing breakfast (12:07), people-watching (15:01), GameStop retro prices (18:25), the library (27:57), and swing-offs (38:56), before tidbits on THPS 3+4 and a "new" worst movie.

QU!ET

It has been some time since we've heard from our friends, but they are back! Find more from them here, listen to my chat with Michael from 2022 here, and get Distance here (Apple)!

RIP Taco Bell trot

Well, I guess I didn't trot enough! It was disheartening to learn that the most delicious fast food breakfast was no longer available within walking distance. I'll never forget you, AM Crunchwrap!

People-watching

This loss led me across the way to Dunkin, which was...fine I guess? The food was not what I wanted, but I did get to overhear one of the dumbest statements. If you are going to make a connection to your own life from what someone else says, you should have a little more than "I knew a ____ in high school." Just sayin'!

GameStop retro section

The employee was not wrong: this location did have quite a retro selection. But the prices were more than I would have been willing to pay, even if I'd had the extra money. I admittedly do not know the ins and outs of GameStop's economics, but I would hazard a guess that some more product could move if the prices were a tad lower. $25 for a used PS3 controller! $20 for a PS2 game in 2025! $90 for a Game Boy Advance! What are we doing?

The library

I had not been to a library in a very long time, but this place rules. I was able to just exist in my own little space. No one bothered me. No one tried to sell me anything. No one asked me how long I would be sitting there. It was fantastic. We all need to call our government people to make sure these places keep getting funding. They are a wonderful community resource and everyone should have access to them.

Fan mail: MLB Swing-off

Thank you for the question, Jimmy from Mayfair! Yes, I absolutely would prefer the swing-off to the ghost runner in extra innings. Everyone loves homers. Pitchers wouldn't be taxing their arms as much, leaving them more rested for the playoffs. Home. Runs. Let's make this a thing!

And that, as we say, is that! Thanks for doing the thing! Also if you liked Fireflies in the Garden, I am sorry I dumped on it. But let me know and we can chat about it. Maybe I missed something and you can enlighten me. Failing that, come on back next time for whatever tumbles out of my brain. Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Crap open a cold one!
