Show notes - Episode 232: Sorry About Your Krusty Krab

Morning, friends!

I hope the sound quality is okay today - it sounded fine on the test run so my toes are crossed. I went into this episode hoping to max out at 45 minutes, something I'd like to do more often, but that did not happen. I'll try harder next next week!

After a bit of self-promotion Pat rambles on ski weekend (4:56), calling customer service (13:14), and the end of BoJack Horseman (26:56). Plus the latest tune from shallow pools (31:00), the Astros apology tour (35:25), the XFL (43:30), and a Flyers Update from The Captain (49:27)!

Blog stuff

I mentioned a couple of pieces I'd written during this episode, so I'm going to link them here before I forget. You can check out the Swing Life Away story here, the Grubhub piece here, and listen to the shallow pools interview here.

Ski weekend

I'm back from the thing! Ski weekend is always a solid time and this year I got to see the Turkey Hill Experience for the first time - made a delicious ice cream treat and got some good tea! Next year I hope to have another tubing tale for you, maybe one that includes getting over the new hump. Yeah!

Calling for support

I had a great call with HelloFresh recently (some might say it was perfect), which brought up some other good and not-so-good customer care encounters. It's unfortunate that call center employees have to deal with so many upset customers, but it's also *coin* that corporations can't care enough to make sure their services work properly for those who pay to use them. No one wins!

BoJack Horseman

I'm really not sure what else to say about how wonderful this show is. All six seasons are streaming on Netflix, so put the kids to bed and give it a go. Let me know what you think!

Thanks to our dear friends for their latest tune, Bloom! It is wonderful and you should go get it. Then tell them that you want them to play a show in Philadelphia. It'll be great!

Astros, MLB blew it

Okay so I found the story from The Athletic about the player punishments and it was written by Evan Drellich, so go check that out and his other work.

Jim Crane flip-flopping in a matter of seconds really encapsulates this whole scandal, doesn't it? It's been a complete mess from the beginning. I don't think Mike Fiers is a snitch, I think he did a good thing. We don't know for sure that he didn't raise concerns about this in 2017, so taking the "why did he wait?" stance seems silly. Players should have been punished and the legacy of the Astros and their first championship is forever tainted. But don't go throwing at their heads.

The XFL

I am enjoying this league so far. The fact that we can see exactly how the replay officials are making their determinations is so cool to me. Because even if the call goes against your team, you can at least know how THE MAN came to that decision. I do miss the black football, but the home team logo is good. Can the NFL adopt one of these things? (The third is pace of play, but I've given up on that front at this point.)

Flyers Update

It is always wonderful to hear The Captain on the show - mainly because it's a segment I don't have to research. It's been a bit and I think we got the best update of the season today. So keep up that excitement for the Fly Guys and hope that we get to have The Captain in-studio after they win it all in June.

🎧

And that's that, pals! Thanks for coming to the table today! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that you get to walk to Taco Bell tomorrow. I'm off to do some yoga before recording a rasslin episode for next week. I'll be back with a regular episode on March 7 - a new tune from VISTA and a music-related question are all that's on the cards for now, so join me as I stumble through the rest.

Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Crap open a cold one!
