Dessert Menu: April 21, 2019 - New Place, Same Brain

Hey, friends!

I realize I haven't done one of these in a while - and it's definitely not because I haven't forgotten to mention things on the show. But this week I have a bunch of items on the menu that I want to share, so here we go with the thing!

Notre Dame

I shared a bit of a controversial "take" this week. Do I regret that? No. I do, however, regret not adding a bit of context. This was the image in question:

I did not delete either my Facebook post or my tweet, because I do not think that the message here is invalid. I did add that the reason I shared this is because I chose to donate to those people in need instead of to Notre Dame. And although the church is property of France and not Vatican-owned, people with lots of money have stepped in with their wallets to help.

This doesn't make the last line of the tweet either untrue or unnecessary: the Catholic Church does have a lot of money and Jesus did, in fact, care very much for humans. I do understand that Notre Dame is more than "just a church" to lots of people, and they are of course welcome to donate their time and/or money to help rebuild. But I took this tweet to mean: "Hey, there are people in trouble who also need help and don't have the backing of wealth to save them." That is why I shared this post and will stand by it, despite it not conveying my feelings "to a t."

Disney+

When I asked Jill at the end of the episode if I had anything else to tell you, she said no. As soon as I signed off, this came to mind. Though I guess I don't have that much to say about it, so maybe it's better that I'm doing it here.

When I heard about this, my first thought was: "oh man, another streaming service." Then I realized that I don't have many original thoughts, and that I am probably going to subscribe to this anyway.

Another $7 per month for some more Marvel, Star Wars, and maybe the Disney Channel Original Movies I grew up watching? Yes please! It will start out cheaper than Netflix, and I may be able to get a bit of a discount by bundling with Hulu - I'm in on November 12.

Rebel Hive Meadery

I can't believe I forgot about this. Actually, I can, but I still feel bad about it. Our friends at Rebel Hive will be selling for the first time this weekend - so I'll let them tell you about it (per rebelhivemeadery.com):

We will be selling for the first time at The Mint Leaf's expansion event!  Come on out to celebrate Stinkleberry Soap Co. and try some awesome mead by the glass or bottle!

When: April 27th

Time: 10am - 3pm

Where: The Mint Leaf

            1008 Stinson Drive

            Leesport, PA 19533

🍹

(I know mead probably isn't served like that, but I typed in "drink" and that's all that showed.)

Programming stuff

I know I've been saying the April 27 show will be "in the can," but I was wrong. I will actually have time to record on my usual day. BUT the show will still be a bunch of complaints and grievances, in a tribute to George. So you still have some time to get things off your chest! I will make that the question (to be posted tomorrow morning), but you can always get in touch here!

Speaking of my usual day, that will be changing starting with the May 4 episode. I will go back to recording on Fridays so you have more time to get in on the questions, and so maybe my show topics will be timely again. Gonna be great!

And that's that, friends! I know I need to write more often, but most of these ideas become topics on the show. So if you'd rather scroll through my thoughts than hear them, let me know what's what!

Until next time, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Crap open a cold one!
