Show notes - Episode 435: The Odds and Ends Express

Morning, friends!

Time was not on our side this week, but we made it work. I recorded and edited the show in under three hours yesterday, which I think is some kind of record. Go me! Hear an acoustic track from a friend of the show, then a bunch of ramblings across the board. Let's do this!

Pat plays an acoustic track from 12 Stones (4:27), then rambles on more Twitter alternatives (7:45), retiring at 90 (13:05), and The Icon of the Seas (20:16). Plus console exclusive gaming (23:47), NYT shutting down sports (30:02), and tattoos (33:46).

Many thanks to Paul from 12 Stones for the tune! Watch the performance below and tell him I sent you! (This dude won a Grammy and appeared on my podcast. How wacky is that?)

Instagram Threads

It's early, but the returns on this app are promising. I'm fine with no DMs, but I do wish there was a way to sort certain topics to see all of those posts. If I've missed how to do this, let me know.

Woman retires after 74 years, no missed days

Please don't celebrate people like this. Working until you're 90 is not good. Never taking a day off from work is not good. This hustle and grind culture is stupid at best and harmful at worst. Let people live without having to work forever.

The Icon of the Seas

Thank you for sending this my way, but I have no interest in getting on this. If I wanted amenities like this, I'd shell out for a luxury hotel. I get the added bonuses of being on land and visiting a city during my stay. Learn more about this ship here.

Microsoft, Activision, console exclusives

I will admit the reason I brought this up was to lament on games not being on every platform. But also? It stinks that THPS 3+4 won't happen because of a merger like this one. But at least you can play CoD on PlayStation for another decade?

New York Times shutting down their sports section

From a business standpoint, I get it. NYT acquired The Athletic (and started running ads in pieces - ugh) so they didn't really *need* a sports section anymore. But this whomps. It's like a middle finger to the sports subscribers and I don't like that at all.

Tattoos

I appreciate the question and I'm sorry I don't have any tattoos with stories behind them. I just don't think I'd be able to be still for any length of time to get ink. So much for that WDSR tattoo...

🚢

And that, as we say, is that! Thanks for sticking with me this week. I'll try to record ahead of time next week so we don't have to rush again. Until then, don't do anything I wouldn't do!

Crap open a cold one!
